Teaching in the Junior Department builds on the strong foundations from the Infant Department and extends beyond the National Curriculum.

Subjects are taught in a structured environment, preparing the children well for Common Entrance examinations to Senior Schools. The Core Subjects of Math, English and Science are taught enthusiastically with a wide and varied curriculum.

English is divided into Grammar, Comprehension, Story Writing, Reading and Handwriting which enables pupils to use these skills in other subjects such as History, Geography, Music, Art, French, ICT, Latin, Religious Education, PSHE and Citizenship. Emphasis on strong communication skills is regarded as paramount as the children aspire towards year six.

In the Science curriculum, aspects of biology, chemistry and physics are explored in each year group and then developed in increasing detail. As part of our continuing commitment to education, a new hi-tech science lab has been built which will further enhance the opportunity for children to discover and interact with the world around them.

Both Maths and Science are taught in a structured, yet creative atmosphere where pupils can experiment with problem solving, scientific experiments and further participation in the form of non-verbal and verbal reasoning.

As the children progress through the school from year three upwards our focus is on building confidence and encouraging the children to have independent thought. We encourage responsible behaviour and a solid structure within each peer group.

Pupils have an extremely successful track record of entrances into their first choice of West London day schools and boarding schools, and this year has been no exception. Our current Year Six Common Entrance results speak for themselves.
