Geography gives our pupils a greater understanding of places and environments.

Through geography, children build on and extend their knowledge of locations near and far and learn how people and environments interact and change. Geography helps children develop a wide range of skills and provides an interesting and relevant context for the development of language and literacy, numeracy and IT, as well as cross-curricular themes and dimensions.

Geography is also an important focus for the development of children’s attitudes and values, for example in relation to other people, communities and the environment.

In Geography lessons we:

  • Investigate a variety of people, places and environments at different scales in the UK and abroad, and to make links between places in the world.
  • Carry out geographical enquiry inside and outside the classroom.  In doing so children ask geographical questions and use geographical skills and resources.
  • Develop a knowledge and understanding of environmental change and sustainable development.
  • Develop a knowledge and understanding of places and themes, patterns and processes.
  • Show continuity and progression throughout the geography curriculum.
