Nos diligo disco Latin procul Kew Contraho!

Latin is taught to all children from Year 3 to Year 6.  We use the Minimus scheme, which we believe gives the children an enjoyable and insightful introduction to the Latin language and the life of a Roman family in Roman Britain.

The Minimus scheme phases in the language through reading Latin stories, playing games, singing songs and acting out scenes from familiar myths, as well as stories from Minimus.  We encourage our pupils to relate the grammar in Latin to that of English and other European languages. Our pupils leave Year 6 with a solid foundation in the basics of Latin Culture and language.

In Latin, we cover topics such as:

  • History of Roman Britain
  • Roman Empire
  • History & mythology
  • Roman gods
  • Roman military
  • Roman foods, school and education
  • Theatre, plays and entertainment
